Before purchasing a dog, buyers have to learn more about the breed. Health issues are of priority when buying an English Bulldog. The breed is prone to skin and bone problems, elongated soft palate, ectropion, and other minor disorders. Keep in mind that the English Bulldog experiences health problems throughout life and it is very dependent on its owner. Sometimes, dogs cannot do without their owners' assistance.
The life span of the English Bulldog is not great. Bulldogs tend to live for about 8-10 years. During their life, they need much care. Prospective owners should be aware of the disadvantages of owning an English Bulldog. The breed is very sensitive to extreme temperatures. The English Bulldog will bear neither heat nor cold. It does snore and shed a little bit. However, the breed does not need much grooming. The dog should be brushed regularly. As for exercise needs, the English Bulldog is OK with a few walks a day. The dog adapts easily to an apartment and it is inactive indoors. Individual dogs are more active than others.
The English Bulldog makes a good companion dog. Despite its vicious appearance and past uses, the breed is far from a ferocious fighter that it had once been. Breeders took care to breed out undesirable qualities in an effort to preserve the breed. Nowadays, the English Bulldog is a family pet that thrives on much affection and returns love absolutely.

Unfortunately, breed popularity and exaggeration of the breed's physical characteristics has resulted in breeding poor quality Bulldogs. Health disorders, inability to provide necessary care for a dog purchased on impulse contributes greatly to the numbers of rescue dogs. Breed lovers try to rehabilitate and re-home abandoned dogs. Nevertheless, people who want to adopt a dog should be knowledgeable on the issue of owning English Bulldogs.
